Bismuth Digits (Trinket)

Bismuth Digits is a parametric trinket for all your numbering needs.

Use it for labeling your keys, wearing your lucky number as an earring, or fidgeting with a 3D title of your favorite book by George Orwell – the sky's the limit.

The name of the project stems from the primary inspiration behind the pattern – Bismuth crystals and the way they form intricate fractal-like shapes made of curling yet blocky volumes.

Give it a like so that it reaches the second stage and get's production-ready

In this entry I've aimed to create a product that users can have a genuine reason to customize. Many parametric models online offer intricate aesthetic customization that appeals to designers but fail to provide actual value to users.

That’s why, despite the inner complexity of the pattern used, this project is simple in concept. If, for any functional or aesthetic reason, you find yourself in need of a trinket or a piece of jewelry shaped like a specific number, this product has you covered.

Most of this model's parameters are not exposed to the user, as they primarily ensure that any digit in the pattern can form a strong bond with the digits before and after it.

The only three parameters exposed to the end user are:

  • A field for entering a number

  • A slider to control the depth of the pattern

  • An option to display a mounting ring

In it's current state this is still a work-in-progress model that needs some optimization for easy 3D printing
